Get Involved

While we do have official staff on the GLPIPL Recovery Effort, the true success of this species will take everyone. Whether you decide to make your actions known or not, there is a lot you can do to help GLPIPLs. Below are some suggestions of things you can do that will make a huge difference for the birds.

Some daily activities we all can do when on the beach:

  • Give nesting GLPIPL lots of space
  • Respect the roped off areas surrounding GLPIPL nesting sites
  • Keep dogs leashed
  • Don’t litter
  • Don’t chase or scare the birds

Some slightly more involved activities:

  • Sign up for email updates from the GLPIPL website
  • Follow GLPIPL on Twitter
  • Like GLPIPL on Facebook
  • Tell a friend or family member about what you’ve learned on GLPIPL
  • Volunteer to monitor a GLPIPL beach during the summer
  • Apply to work with the GLPIPL Recovery Effort during the summer
  • Report any sightings of GLPIPL during the winter months (especially if you are along the Gulf Coast where the birds winter)
